Art Week is still on but it's going to end soon. And we still have things to catch up with.
Things ahead.
1. Ubi Ubi - the open studio of Fyerool Darma, Ezekiel Wong, Betty, Hilmi and Simon Ng. They are having a reception this Saturday 2 to 6 pm.
2. Ang Soo Koon and Tan Guo Liang at Grey Projects.
3. Singapore Contemporary if you haven't caught it yet.
4. Fantasy Island - Objectifs
5.Every Move You Make - opening at ICAS (LaSalle) next Thursday
6. Singapore Bienniale is reaching it's end but the good news is that SAM will be opened during the CNY holidays.
7. Indieguerillas at Mizuma, but this goes on till 19th February, so still some time left.

Solid Prayers - Chun Kai Qun
This exhibition is held from 10th January to 19th February 2017 over at FOST Gallery at Gillman Barracks.
This exhibition features many installations, dioramas, drawings and printed words.
In a Chun Kai Qun style/ humour/ sense of being, the works are dark, scary, anarchic, wild, coarse and primal. Not easily palatable to most, and can give you a strong sense of sadness without you being able to pinpoint why. Even the colour palette isn't easy to appreciate, the strong colours contrast in the works. Some of the works are very blatant and in your face. However the thoughts and subjects behind the works are interesting and often personal.
They're not works you can look at on one of those noisy Gillman party nights when people just go for the free booze. Spend some time with the works alone, at a non-busy time at the gallery, and you will go away feeling thoughtful and richer for the experience.
Points for collectors: Kai Qun is a buy rating, he has been recognised and awarded the Young Artist Award by NAC in 2015 (the award at the same event as the Cultural Medallion). Just hope that he continues to work with the galleries and doesn't drop out of the scene or get ignored by the galleries.

This fair is part of art week and runs till Sunday 22nd 2017 over at Suntec City.

Art Stage 2017
Finally caught up till today. Anyway went down to Art Stage and saw a lot of nice things. Posting a few pictures in this blog but there are many much more.

A Totem For Your Genuine Internals - Ruben Pang
This exhibition is held from 10th January to 9th February 2017 at Raffles Hotel's Shopping Arcade; organised by Chan Hampe Galleries as part of art week.
Ruben was given free rein and transformed the shop unit into his little sanctuary. He painted the walls and had a neon light installation at the end of the room with two sculptures flanking it.

Poised for Success- Zhang Fuming
This exhibition was held from 23rd December 2016 to 8th January 2016 at AC43 gallery at Bras Basah Complex.
He presented his woodcut series. The works have to do with portraits of oneself to signify having arrived. He also showed his older works from the AAF Young Talent Programme and his early works about being a hawker.
Points for collectors: He sold quite a fair bit of his works. Has improved with his woodcut skills, but still has a long way to go. Slight Buy rating.

VADA Untapped Discovery 2016
This was held in December 2016 at ChanHampe Galleries' Shophouse 5 at Geylang.
There were ten artists featured:
1. Akai Chew - he presented some prints to deal with Utopia / versions of paradise. Interesting pieces.
2. Cassandra Koh - presented paintings of myths / mythology. Very nice works.
3. Clare Chong - presented photos and videos. Good film maker.
4. Germaine Chong - presented fungus and a live culture. Conceptually interesting.
5. Ivan David Ng - presented very nice sculptures.
6. Kiwha Lee Blocman - showed some paintings to do with colour, space, perception and depth. Very good maturing works.
7. Cynthia Delany Suwito - did her noodle stitching. Tedious and painstaking.
8. Leow Wei Li - Drawings about space like the one in AAF. Nice works.
9. Wang ChenYing Rebecca - Did her works with towels/ fabrics.Nice works.
10. Zulkhairi Zulkiflee - presented two prints to do with Malay roots and heritage. Nice works.

Points for collectors: Really loved all their works. Kudos to the selection committee for selecting this excellent field of artists. All are a buy rating. But as for all young artists there is always the risk of attrition.
Affordable Art Fair November 2016 - Young Talent Programme.
This was held in conjunction with the year end edition of the Affordable Art Fair. Here at 75gramsofpainting, we love to feature young artists. The artists featured are Chiang Lup Hong, Eugene Koh, Harun Ak, Jodi Tan, Le Thuy, Leow Wei Li, Tay Ining and Wai. And being strong advocates for the local art scene we will talk about the 4 Singaporean Artists.
Jodi Tan - she did more of her cross stitch works like in the VADA Untapped Emerging 2016. Nice Works.
Leow Wei Li - she did more of her paintings which has to deal with spaces/spatial interactions. Nice Works.
Tay Ining - Did her Naked Potato; Sweet Naked Potato. In which she set up a stall which she made and welded herself. And she presented sweet potatoes and normal potatoes along with her steel potatoes and steel sweet potatoes and the art/ steel potatoes were sold by the weight. Quite an eye-catching work.
Eugene Koh - presented wood sculptures. Nice works too. There were 3 sculptures in all.
Points for collectors: Tay Ining - Strong Buy. Jodi Tan and Leow Weili - Buy. Eugene Koh - can buy but the works were a tad expensive at AAF and have to see how he develops. Just hope that trials and bumps in the short term don't dampen their enthusiasm, because they are all talented.
